We encourage those interested in our Storybook Project to consider volunteering with us. Below are the Application Instructions.
1. Contact Britt Hopkin, Project Coordinator for the Rochester Storybook Project, and request a Clearance Application Packet for gaining access into the jail. You can contact Britt via phone at (585) 309-6345, or via email at our two email addresses, bgh@aol.com (or at RochesterStorybookProject@gmail.com.) Britt will talk to you about our work in the jail. (Note that we work in the most Monday mornings from 8:30am to 11 am, and typically each volunteer is scheduled for 2 or 3 visits during each 3 month period.)
2. Fill out your Clearance Application Packet following the directions listed below, and as indicated on the first page of the packet. Here are specific instructions specific to the Storybook Project.
For the “Clearance Application” (Page 2): Fill in as follows:

for “Clearance Type”: check “Rehab Program”
for “Purpose of Clearance”: check “Inside Security”
Fill out the other lines as requested.
For the Family/ Friend Custody Form (Page 3): Please list any friends or family members you may have who have been, or are currently incarcerated in the Monroe County Jail. Note that this is for informational purposes only. Your answer should have no effect on your acceptance. If you don’t have anyone who fits the description on this form, just say “no one”.
3. Send (via Email or US Mail) the completed Clearance Application along with a copy of your Driver’s License — both sides, or other government-issued Photo ID (i.e. passport) to Jrivers@monroecounty.gov , or to Jennifer Rivers, Director of Rehabilitation, MonroeCounty Jail, 130 South Plymouth Ave., Rochester, NY 14614.
4. If your application is accepted, follow the remaining steps on the first page of the packet, for fingerprinting, and signing up to attend a Security Orientation Class. Note that you will need to set up a visit to be fingerprinted (Britt will advise about this}, and then immediately contact Jennifer Rivers to reserve a spot on the next Security Orientation Class (roughly 45 minutes, held usually once each month — Britt will advise as to the next class date.)w text goes here.
